Khadimnagar National Park is about 10 kilometers from Sylhet city on the Sylhet-Jaflong highway passed the shrine of Shah Paran is Khadimnagar intersection. A left turn from there leads to the Khadimnagar tea garden. Among the animals and birds are different species of bears, wild cats, apes, pythons, parakeets and doves.

The forest is quite popular with trekkers with a 45-minute trail and a two hour-one. There is a map of the trails in front of the local forest office. Besides trekkers can also hire a local guide.

History of Khadimnagar National Park:

Khadimnagar National Park is located on the eastern side of Sylhet Sadar Upazilla. The forest declared as National Park by Bangladesh government in 2004 under the Bangladesh Wildlife (preservation) Amendment Act of 1947. The area of the park is about 679 ha. The Park is surrounded by to the West by Kalagool tea estate, to the south by Kalagool, Khadimnagar and charging tea estates, to the east by Habibnagar and Kinaichara tea estates and to the North by Kalagool, burden and goolni tea estates. It is elongated up to 10 km for east to west and 0.50 km wide from south to the north. The area is much undulating dissected by streams and its tributaries and valleys. The peak of the hill is about 50m from the sea level. The overall appearance forest is a cluster of plantations of different ages. Natural Forest patch is very rare in the park and some sporadic presence trees are observed here and there.

The area was taken under tea plantation during 1885 when British people were ruled the country. They were cleared all-natural forest in and around Sylhet city for the purpose of tea plantation. A small plot of natural forest was kept intact as a reserved forest. By the course of time, the reserve went under sporadic logging. As a result, the tree vegetation has been completely eliminated. Except for a few reminders as witness trees near the forest office. In the degraded and denuded hills, long term plantation has been started during the years of 1951, 1952, 1953 and 1954 using teak plant (according to park management map). In the same way, short term plantation works have also been done during the years of 1981 using bamboos and canes. In the year 1987, 1991, 1992 and 1994 plantation program was performed using Akashmoni, Eucalyptus, and Medium. Again the area went under long term plant during 1985 by Teak plant and 1993, 1994 by Garjan, Dhakijam, Chickrasi, Champa plants. In 2008 and 2009, the remaining patches of ornamented by Agar plantation. A small segment of the park located in Bateshwar Cantonment also planted by bamboos in 1982, 1994 and 1995.

Buses from Dhaka to Sylhet leaves. Buses from Gabtali and Sayedabad bus terminals. The buses depart from morning till 12:45 hours and leave the buses from Fakirapul, Sayedabad and Mohakhali bus stations in Sylhet.

Intercity train Parabat Express leaves Dhaka at Kamlapur Railway Station on Tuesday noon at 6:40 pm except for Tuesday. The Jayantika Express leaving at 2 pm on the weekday and the Waban Express leave at 9:50 pm every day of the week except Wednesday.

  • By Air:

Biman Bangladesh, United Air, Regent Air, Novo Air, and US Bangla Air airplanes to go to Sylhet’s Osmani Airport at Shahjalal International airport in Dhaka.
